Printing checks with QuickBooks is a great way to save time and track your expenses. The software makes it easy by auto-filling information fields on your checks, such as customer addresses and account numbers. Writing a check is as easy as filling out an onscreen form that resembles an actual check. When you type in the numbers, QuickBooks will automatically add the check to your register, making tracking expenses and billing effortless. In addition, QuickBooks has an auto-recall feature for creating recurring transactions.

Types of Checks QuickBooks Offers
QuickBooks has four different types of checks that you can print:
Standard Checks: This type of check is most often used for paying bills to vendors who do not need to see payment details. These checks are also good for companies who want to cut down on paper-based records and would prefer to store their information electronically with QuickBooks. Each page contains three checks, making it faster to print multiple checks at one time.
Voucher Checks: This kind of check is commonly used for payroll. Each page comes with a check at the top of the page with two tear-off stubs at the bottom. This way, one stub can be given to the employee so they can see details on earnings and deductions, while the second stub can be saved for record-keeping purposes.
Office and Away Checks: These are similar to Standard Checks in that they come with three checks per page. Each page is hole-punched so that the check will fit in an Office and Away check binder. The binder provides a professional-looking carrying case if you need to write checks by hand while you’re away from the office.
Wallet Checks: These checks are made for personal use and are the smallest of all the different kinds of checks. Each page has three checks with a small stub for printing payment details.
Tips for Printing Checks with QuickBooks
Buy checks that are guaranteed to work with QuickBooks so that the check information will properly align when you print the checks.
Make certain that the checks you use have security features such as:
- Chemically reactive paper, which helps avoid check fraud
- The Padlock icon, a certification mark of the Check Payment Systems Association
- An Original Document Security Screen on the back and a microprint signature line that is too small to photocopy clearly
Use a Forms Leader for easier printing and improved alignment of partial page checks. A Forms Leader is similar to a sticky note and can be attached to the one or two remaining checks on the page, making it a full-size page that can be printed like you normally print full-page checks.

Align your checks to print correctly:
- QuickBooks allows you to make alignment adjustments for both dot matrix printers and inkjet/laser printers.
- Checks printed from the paper tray align text better than checks printed through the feeder tray. Checks that are printed through the feeder tray often print text slightly lower than when printed from the paper tray.
